Q & A with Suzy Tonini (Continued)
Six Degrees: How many applicants at your present employer do you estimate are hired from your corporate website as compared to how many are hired through referrals?
Suzy: I would say 30% from corporate website and the remaining 70% through Internet Research and Referrals.
Six Degrees: What is the source of the “Most Hires” collected from at your present employer? (In terms of Quantity #)
Suzy: Internet Research and Referrals.
Six Degrees: What is the source of your “LOWEST COST OF HIRES” - (least amount of invested resources for the easiest hires, regardless of quality) at your present employer?
Suzy: Internal Internet Research and Referrals.
Six Degrees: What types of training in sourcing/recruitment are available to you and have you taken advantage of?
Suzy: Deloitte has many training options, as well as resources that I use on a regular basis
Six Degrees: What recruitment software tools do you use in your day to day recruitment activities & do they translate effectively within all of the different countries where you recruit?
Suzy: SalesForce.com and Taleo. Two separate systems- SalesForce is for the Sourcers, Taleo is for Recruiters.
Six Degrees: What tools (technology or old school file folder, for example) did you first encounter early in your recruitment career?
Suzy: ACT, CAPS and Outlook.

Six Degrees: How did your expectations of being a recruiter compare to the actual, first time you got on the phone or in the cubicle? To this day would you say people’s assumptions about our vocation differ from reality?
Suzy: Never did any phone work, but did work in a cubicle at Management Recruiters International for a few years. Then, it was home office based from 2001 on.
Six Degrees: Tell us about your Worst mistake, biggest goof, lousiest practice you thought would fly but didn’t…and how that was a learning experience?
Suzy: Not thoroughly checking Deloitte’s client companies before approaching passive candidates. And we are talking a list of over 1000 companies! I was approached by one of the Client companies to work for them for being so “ballsy†(translate: did not have a clue).
Six Degrees: How do you personally contribute to facilitate change within our industry, and/or at your place of work? ?
Suzy: I personally am in favor of sharing tips, ideas, methodologies with Recruiting professionals at large. I have done so in various online mediums and have been especially praised for doing so by industry luminaries such as Glenn Gutmacher.
Six Degrees: “Best practice†you are most proud of developing (now or in the past) in your recruiting career?
Suzy: Again, I am proud of “sharing the wealthâ€, and networking with everybody, whether it be a janitor in Tasmania or a CEO of a Fortune 10 company.
Six Degrees: What are some of the frustrating aspects/obstacles to your day to day as a staffing professional and in general?

Suzy: Finding awesome leads and then sending on to appropriate people only to find out nothing has been done with those leads, or that they were acted upon much too late in the game.
Six Degrees: What are the most common themes of strategic and/or tactical mishaps involving past or present HR/Staffing org?
Suzy: Sort of goes back to my previous point- having candidates /leads “die on the vine†because they were not approached in a timely manner.
Six Degrees: Considering all of the frustrations you have experienced in your career as a recruiter, — what inspires you as you continue in your career?
Suzy: Since I am a researcher, not a recruiter, I’m excited by Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 technologies and what they have to offer in terms of connecting with people, real-time.
Six Degrees: What one thing do you most fantasize doing/implementing/developing/inventing professionally that has yet to be done?
Suzy: Well, I actually co-founded a process/software which unites Job Seekers and Recruiters and Companies under one umbrella, with networking capabilities, jobs from every employer and recruiter, career coaching, job searching tips and a whole lot more. It was started in 2003 and will see the light of day soon.
Six Degrees: Anything you want to plug?
Suzy: I am officially working for Deloitte, so my project that I mentioned above, is out of my hands now, but it is called Careeradex and I can provide more details if anyone wants to know more.
Six Degrees: How Are You Going To Change The Recruitment Industry?
Suzy: Keep on being my self!!
