On May 9th some of us bloggers are addressing an audience as a panel to attempt to answer a few questions about blogging in the recruit-o-sphere. “Blogging from “Guerrilla” Marketing to Mainstream Recruiting

Moderated by Dave Mendoza, the panel consists of Steve Levy, Dennis Smith, Gretchen Ledgard and I. In preparation for the event Steve suggested we bring more to the table than just ourselves so we each took it upon ourselves to ask 7 other bloggers some basic questions, and we will be presenting our “survey results” during the panel discussion. We hope this makes the event more memorable and adds value by expressing the thoughts and opinions of a broader community, not just a few examples.

The 7 questions we asked were:
  1. Why do you blog?
  2. What do you prefer to blog about?
  3. Where do you receive your inspiration from?
  4. Who do you write your blog for?
  5. How much blogging has impacted your business/company’s recruiting brand?
  6. When do you find the time to blog?
The Chad and Bill Warren have already posted their responses on their blogs, so I guess that mans this is a good idea?

In any case, I didn’t think it was fair for me to ask the question of then and then not answer it myself so here goes:

  1. Why do you blog?
    • I blog to elevate the profession of sourcing and research, inspire a sea change, and bring our industry into people’s hearts and minds. < ?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  2. What do you prefer to blog about?
    • Sourcing and research strategy, techniques, tools and automation. In short, things that help us find talent quicker, cheaper and in a sustainable way.
  3. Where do you receive your inspiration from?
    • Search engine blogs, my fellow researchers, people attending my presentations, science fiction books and movies, and the problems I  encounter along with my customers as we apply techniques I demonstrate.
  4. Who do you write your blog for?
    • Fellow recruiters, sourcers, researchers and staffing industry leaders who want to understand why this role is critical to an organization’s success.
  5. How much blogging has impacted your business/company’s recruiting brand?
    • Considerably. Participating in online communities like the ERE blogs, other people’s blogs, and discussion groups has helped me understand what the gaps and misconceptions are in our industry which in turn helps me address them or explain them.
  6. When do you find the time to blog?
    • I sleep only the third Sunday of each month, I have eight arms and I have discovered the secret to cloning. No, actually, like the Dread Pirate Roberts there’s more than one Shally.
Cheers,
Shally
