Some aspects of sourcing expertise are based on fundamentals — asking the right questions. I take the time to ask candidates to assist in the explaination of engineering basics in layman terms. The Pan Pacific theatre is a pivotal arena for semiconductor manufacturing and the demand far exceeds the supply for established talent across a variety of key disciplines. I have long been an advocate in the essential need for semiconductor companies to establish their own indigienous sourcing teams with the help of domestic sourcing gurus on-site. In the process, you create infrastructure – which is too often missing overseas. As a hobby, I source Asian IC engineers, in doing so, I developed the following guide of English to Chinese translations of key semiconductor engineering terms for your sourcing pleasure: (I simply cared enough to ask) 🙂

English to Mandarin Chinese Character translation

1) Resume or CV: 个人简历

2) Engineer: 工程师

3) IT: 信息技术

4) Semiconductor: 半导体

5) Analog Mixed Signal: 模拟混合信号

6) Delta Sigma: 差动积分

7) Converter: 转换器

8) ASIC or FPGA: 专用集成电路或现场可编程门阵列

9) Marketing: 市场

10) Recruiter: 招聘人

If your staffing organization wants to up its game further and establish its own sourcing team simply contact me and JobMachine inc. can make the above techniques a way of life and hires!

hehe Dave ….:-D ….with development of other, non-US markets I reckon some basic dictionary might be required for more languages….
    … let’s start with BRIC:

    engineer – Engenheiro/Инженер/अभियन्ता/工程师
    algorithm – Algoritmo/Алгоритм/cannot find hi word/算法

… yeah I know – our job is not getting any easier 😉
