OTTAWA – November 23, 2009 – Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving, marks the beginning of the critical holiday selling season for retailers of all sizes. It's a period that can generate as much as 75 percent of the year's profits in a normal year. But with the economy where it's been in 2009, small retailers in particular may need a little extra help, which is why Campaigner (www.campaigner.com) is offering an easy-to-use, Holiday in a Bag email tool kit that includes everything they need to plan, create and launch a sales-generating holiday email promotion.

“For a big box retailer, the strategy for boosting holiday sales is usually more national ads,” said Steve Adams, vice president of marketing for Protus, the provider of Campaigner. “For the small retailer, big marketing budgets are probably not an option. With Campaigner's free Holiday in a Bag tool kit, small retailers can reach out more directly and effectively to target shoppers with sales, specials and coupons.”

According to the National Retail Federation, 55% of shoppers say they will be looking for sales more often during the 2009 holiday shopping season and 41.7% will be using more coupons. Campaigner helps small retailers take advantage of those trends without requiring a huge investment of time or budget.

As further evidence of the effectiveness of such campaigns, a recent State of Small Business Online Marketing Survey, conducted by Hurwitz & Associates and sponsored by Campaigner, showed that 46% of small businesses interviewed indicated that they rely on email marketing to reach new customers and communicate with existing clients. Another 36% of the small business respondents said they plan to start using email marketing in the coming year.

The good news for small retailers is the Direct Marketing Association estimates that for every $1 spent on email marketing, shoppers bought $43 in return.

Included in the bag of templates and graphics are 101 great tips for small retailers including:

  • How to refine email content based on click rates
  • What makes an effective holiday promotion email
  • Ways to personalize messages so the email clicks
  • Using search to attract shoppers and email marketing to nurture them
  • How much small retailers should increase their email frequency for the holidays

Campaigner, a leading provider of email marketing solutions, has designed its Holiday in a Bag tool kit to help small online businesses and retailers drive customers to their physical or online stores with email marketing tools that promote their products and services. As a gift for the holiday season, Campaigner is also offering a chance to win marketing consultation services with Campaigner's email marketing experts. The contest closes January 5, 2010.
