I was reading Katherine Smith’s recipe for Chocolate Fudge Cake when I noticed that …. last Wednesday, August 9th was Dennis Smith’s Birthday! Who is Dennis Smith? I know, I know, everyone knows who thee Dennis Smith is, and everyone knows about his renown Career Builder’s Blog that has become one of the standards of corporate related and/or independently associated Talent Blog sites to promote corporate brands ….. but I simply know this guy who literally passed me bread (therefore ‘broke bread with’) at a luncheon at a Kennedy Conference, and henceforth simply know him as my friend.
Dennis has been such a tremendous influence on my pursuit of talent blogging as an outlet for sharing my passion on behalf of social relationship networking, as a branding tool, and above all a way to learn and commiserate among fellow peers. He inquired on the status of this site, referred blog designers, inquired a bit more on status, let the blogosphere know my status, and even became my first public speaking invite – made blog public no less – to address T-Mobile’s recruitment staff. Of course, Team T-Mobile reflected the aura of its management – a fine crowd of sleuths no less.
Yep I simply know him as my friend. I value my friends and the talent blogosphere values Dennis Smith becoming a year wiser on his birthday and we know he’ll share that wisdom online. For new friends visiting my site, if you want to find your voice as a blogger, you need to go to Dennis Smith and seek his counsel.
To borrow a recent witty pun he posted, let’s refer to Dennis as our personal “Talent Blogging Yoda”
“Remember, a Blogger’s strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger,
fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start blogging, forever
will it dominate your destiny. Job-Seeker… Job-Seeker… do not… do not underestimate the powers of the Blogosphere or suffer your father’s fate you will.”
Talent Blogging. Change it Dennis has. Tried not. He did. Try not is why recruitment fails.
** August 15th – Happy Birthday to my son, Tino – the greatest privilege I have in life is hearing him call me dad 🙂 Hoped you liked your Panda skateboard
